New Page: Buying a Horn

Just a quick update about a new page I’ve put up on the site – all you need to know about buying a French horn.

I’ve talked with lots of students and parents over the years about what to look for in a new or used horn, and I figured making that information easily available in one place would be beneficial to me (since I don’t have to keep repeating it!) and to anyone else who needed some specific help about which horn to choose.

With the proliferation of Chinese-made horns that are – by and large – junk, this page should also hopefully help avoid parents wasting valuable money and students trying to practice and perform on instruments that are potentially holding them back.

While I will likely expand upon it as different horn models and makers come and go, right now I’ve not only got a list of recommended brands and specific models, but also links to price both new and used versions of that model, as well as some of the most important things to consider when choosing a horn that best fits your budget and your playing style!

If there is some additional information that might be useful, or if there’s a horn model or brand that I’ve missed that you think should be included, please let me know in the comment section below!
