This stand is a wholly different experience! It is beefy, black, elegant, easy to assemble, portable, very adjustable, and comes in it's own case (though because the manufacturers made the case no bigger than necessary - it can impossible to fit if not completely collapsed).
The stand itself is made up of 2 pieces: Base + shaft + tray back -- and tray lip. The base comprises 3 thick tube legs with rubber ends, that connect to and pivot away from the shaft - providing an almost earthquake-proof stability. The tray piece extends via hinges and is stabilized by the lip (the other piece) that connects using tongue and groove. The lip has two pivoting "hooks", supposedly to keep music from sliding off but they are not spring-loaded so offer no draft protection (my ONLY real criticism).
For storage: The legs fold against the shaft whilst the tray rocks backward and (with the lip removed), collapses *around* the shaft and legs. Incredibly clever design!
The product is moderately light, very stable, very attractive, and *wide* -- perfect for practice, solo, or "black metal stand" events (though it would certainly be conspicuous amongst a sea of silver stands).
I can't recommend this enough!
I also love that this stand is the taller one which means my husband is able to use it when he plays the sax.
Update 6/8/16
I am still using the stand and it works great and is easy to transport and put together during guitar class. Having said that it is made of plastic and I think for me to get years of use out of this stand I will need to remain cautious not to strip the plastic fasteners, but this so much easier than those metal folding stands which in a senior moment I forget how to put together.
Still glad I purchased this and have had several people inquire about my stand.
